About Fr. Bill
“Pastor”
Father Holtzinger was born in Medford, Oregon, in 1966. He graduated from Tigard High School in 1985 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Math Education from Oregon State University in 1989, followed by a master’s degree in the same field in 1993. From 1990 to 1992, he taught math, computer science, and religion at Central Catholic High School in Portland, and from 1992 to 1993 he taught math at Tigard High School.
He entered Mount Angel Seminary in 1993, where he also earned a master’s degree in theology and divinity in May 2000. During his seminary years, he served at the Benedictine Nursing Center in Mount Angel, St. Mary, Star of the Sea Parish in Astoria, St. Patrick Parish in Independence, and completed a year of pastoral ministry at All Saints Parish in Portland.
Father Holtzinger was ordained a deacon on June 25, 1999, at St. Mary Parish in Corvallis by Auxiliary Bishop Kenneth Steiner, and then served as a deacon at Queen of Peace Parish in Salem for one year. He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop John Vlazny on July 1, 2000, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.
His first priestly assignment was as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Roseburg—including St. Francis Xavier Mission in Sutherlin—from July 1, 2000, to October 31, 2001. On November 1, 2001, he was appointed pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Forest Grove. On July 1, 2009, he was assigned as pastor of St. Anne Parish in Grants Pass, which included the mission parishes of St. Patrick of the Forest in Cave Junction and Our Lady of the River in Rogue River.
His current assignment is pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Beaverton, Oregon, where he has served since July 1, 2022.
He marked 25 years of priestly ordination on July 1, 2025, and celebrated the milestone on July 13 with parishioners from each of his former parish assignments.
“Geek Priest”
Since his ordination, he has been actively engaged in new media as a way to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Fr. Bill’s Podcast—his flagship podcast—launched in September 2005 and was formerly known as St. Anthony’s Podcast. Over the years, he has expanded his digital ministry to include The Mysteries of the Mass Podcast, The PilgrimCast, Fr. Geek’s Video Podcast, and several other projects.
Outside of ministry, his favorite hobby is astronomy, and he is a member of the Vatican Observatory Foundation. He also enjoys camping and kayaking, and likes dabbling in web design. He can be easily followed on Facebook, X BlueSky, Threads, Instagram, and other social media platforms.
